Google - New York Custom System for HLW Architects

Haworth project for Google New York and HLW Architects in 2010. Custom system designed for Google’s New York City office. Designed for a floor of software engineers. Along with another Haworth designer, we asked ourselves, ‘what would give the individuals at Google the most creative flexibility and control over their environment?’ ‘How can we blend existing Haworth products like height adjustable tables and storage, into an environment that is completely customizable and owned by the occupants themselves?’ We were inspired by photo studios and stage rigging. We created a kit of parts and the Haworth New York office took it and tried to see how many variations they could come up with. The Haworth team in New York City and Holland, Michigan, brought everything to reality. We were very pleased to see that on the day-2 move-in, the users hacked the whole system as we had hoped. They made a trebuchet, tables, arches and street signs out of the pipes and clamps and screens, and other elements Haworth provided.
